Description
The sea dog table in the Withdrawing Chamber at Hardwick Hall, Derbyshire. The table is walnut, inlaid with other woods, and marble dating from around 1580, and the design is derived from an engraving by Jacques I Androuet du Cerceau. The legs are in the form of chimeras or sea dogs resting on tortoises, and it is one of the most important surviving pieces of sixteenth century furniture in England.
