Description

Detail of the Clifton Maybank ornamental stonework frontispiece on the west front at Montacute House, Somerset. This Elizabethan Ham-stone house was built in the late sixteenth-century for Sir Edward Phelips, but this stonework was added in the 1780s from the nearby Clifton Maybank house near Yeovil.
