Description

A coloured engraving of the then Rear Admiral Horatio Nelson, which commemorates his victory over Napoleon's eastern empire at the Battle of the Nile in Aboukir Bay on 1 August 1798. The engraving is called "Baron Nelson of the Nile" and is mounted within a gold wood frame at Snowshill Manor. At that time Rear Admiral Horatio Nelson achieved one of the most decisive victories in the age of sail and re-established British command of the Mediterranean. France’s enemies were much encouraged by the great victory and the victor himself became Baron Nelson of the Nile.
