Oil painting on canvas, An Unknown Boy, British (English) School, late 17th century. The identity of the sitter was reputed to be Prince James Francis Edward Stuart, 'The Old Pretender' (1688-1766), but this is not now thought to be the case. A full-length portrait of a young boy, seated on a rock in a landscape, a red curtain draped above and to the left. He wears a long, curled powdered wig and is dressed alla Romana, with a pale red cloak, a yellow tunic military-style tunic, a white shirt with lace cravat and red buskins on his feet. The boy looks out at the spectator and gestures towards the right with his left hand. A white Lowchen dog sits to his left. CMS_PCF_343185
