Oil painting on canvas. The Muses: Terpsichore and Polyhymnia by Robert Fagan (Cork c.1745 - Rome 1816), 1793/95. Grisaille panel of two full length females dressed in classical robes; on the left Terpsichore (Dance) plays on a lyre, turned to right, right profile, the lyre resting on a rock which is waist high; to the right is Polyhymnia (Heroic Hymns), leaning forward, left profile, standing on her left leg, the other leg crossed over, her elbows on the central rock, her chin resting on the palm of her right hand.
