The Grand Staircase at Penrhyn Castle, Gwynedd, designed by Thomas Hopper and built between 1820 and 1837 in Neo-Norman style. The staircase is built of two contrasting stones - the walls are oolitic limestone and the carved pylons, balustrades and newel posts are grey sandstone.
