Loch Alsh and Skye

This landscape print is of Loch Alsh and Skye in Scotland and its alternative title is Over the Sea to Skye". The sunlight through the clouds on Loch Alsh creates a beautiful effect as it reflects on the water. The mountain in the foreground is very dark as are the clouds above. Hardman wrote in his notebook about this- "After a week of almost continuous rain the sun shone again through gaps in moving bands of clouds, sending down beams as from a spotlight. Constantly altering, the scene presented a fresh picture every few minutes. A memorable day in July 1935"". Published in the Liverpool Daily Post July 14th 1937 with the caption ""Over the Sea to Skye. An evening view along Lochalsh with the Kyles of Lochalsh in the middle distance and the mountains of Skye beyond". Hardman made the image into a calendar in 1940. The print was taken from an original Eastman Nitrate Kodak negative which has been retouched.
