Photograph of The Parade, Parkgate village, Cheshire, with houses and shops to the right and the River Dee only just below the level of the street. One of the buildings is a shop advertising Cadbury's Chocolate and next door is a hotel called the Red Lion. Parkagte as a port was well established in the eighteenth century but as the River Dee silted up, the ships moved away from Parkgate around the Wirral to Liverpool on the Mersey.
